Project 3: The Moving Element

Moving Element

First Moving Element

The moving element can be seen in the meeting room where the curved walls can move up and down to give privacy.

Second Moving Element

Can be seen in classroom to expand space or enhances collaborative work

Project 3: 36 Textures

36 Moving Textures

Using photoshop, I was able to pain (with brush tool) and explore the effect like motion blur, liquidfy and smudge etc. to create motion texture.
1. Linear
2. Rotational
3. Scalar
4. Gradient
5. Liquify
6. Nature

Project 3: Draft Model

2 Draft Lumion Environments

I was scared at first that digging a hole in Lumion and playing with the terrain would be difficult. Turns out, it wasn't bad.

Project 3: Design Development

Design Development

Taking from the article, I wanted to create a concept of an underground architecture. The idea initially came from merging from Architecture and Computational design faculty have in common and that is creativity. Creativity comes from inspiration of the influenced of the surroundings and the connection between your mind and nature. We look up at the sky when we think, but we never really looked down. I believe creativity should derive from all aspect of your surroundings, thus creating an underground based on the concept of Earth, to really explore what it is like when Earth is opened up.

Studying the Earth structure and its movement

Brainstorming the architecture of Earth

Final Design Sketch

Floor Plan with UNSW

The Faculty needs to bridge to the square house as the starting path. I chose this site due to the open space and its flexibility to travel. Due to the site being a "design" faculty, when driving pass on Anzac Parade, people are able to sto (during traffic) and see through the exhibition (in the mountain top design). The site also bridge to NIDA to make it convenient for students to collaborate with the drama department .

Project 3: Theory

Architecture Article

I found an Architecture article from the Harvard Magazine which is about biomimicry. Biomimicry was introduced to me when I started this course, something I have never heard of it before and I was fascinated by it and how it was used in architecture. From the article, I have picked 4 key words that could developed my theory.

Key Word: Moist, Nature, Gradient, Morphology

Project 3: One Point Perspective

18 One Point Perspectives

I wanted to experiment with Earth tone colour and play around the opacity of the colour through PhotoShop as my project will be based on Earth and its inner core.

Project 2: The Space Between (4)

Lumion Environment

the three textures (light, medium, dark) are embedded in the structure

My concept takes in the notion of time. UNSW light rail stop is a place where people start their day and end their day. The paradox of the light rail being a stop doesn’t actually stop because the time is still going. So while it may be the end of the day or the start of your journey, you must keep going. Thus, the use of parametric curve to signify the everlasting flow of life.

Project 2: The Space Between (2)

3 parallel projections with their respective curve

A series of 3 parallel projections exploring the interconnection between pairs of my drawings from the week 1. These pairs are combined from the two concepts initially stated. The curve in the second set of the drawing replicates the Artisan Tool use in SketchUp

Project 2: The Space Between (1)

12 Axonometric Drawings

I started by drawing multiple 45 degree parallel lines in 3 direction: increasing slope, decreasing slope and straight down. This will ensure that my boxes will be based on 45 degree at all angles. After drawing, I then scanned and re-drew it in illustrator for aesthetic purple

Challenge: There was a miscommunication of the bottom view and did not know we had to rotate and flip it. So the first drawing of the bottom view for Aalto and MAD Architect did not match the others
